  1. a change of circumstances or fortune, typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasant.
  2.      vicissitudes of life strike us all.

    a favorable or unfavorable event or situation that occurs by chance : a fluctuation of state or        condition b : a difficulty or hardship usually beyond one's control.

    chapters in one's life that one would rather avoid but must get through. Some lives have more      vicissitudes than others, to be sure, but no life is without events that test and challenge us.
