Scab

noun

a sickened appearance.

slang

The slang “scab” is a highly derogatory and “fighting word” most frequently used to refer to people who crosses a union picket line during a strike, choosing to work instead of joining coworkers in protesting low wages or harsh treatment by an employer.

medical

A scab is a protective tissue covering that forms after your skin has been damaged. When you scrape your knee or skin, a blood clot forms and eventually hardens into a protective crust. Your tissue will then regenerate, pushing out the scab to make room for new skin to grow in its place.Their job is to protect the cut by keeping germs and other stuff out and giving the skin cells underneath a chance to heal. If you look at a scab, it probably just looks like a hard, reddish glob.

When you get a cut or scrape, your body releases chemicals called histamines, which may cause irritation and itching. And as the wound heals, the action of new cell formation can be interpreted by the brain as an itching sensation.
To help the injured skin heal, use petroleum jelly to keep the wound moist. Petroleum jelly prevents the wound from drying out and forming a scab; wounds with scabs take longer to heal. This will also help prevent a scar from getting too large, deep or itchy.
