Hitchhiking

intransitive verb. : to travel by securing free rides from passing vehicles

Hitchhiking is a means of transportation that is gained by asking individuals, usually strangers, for a ride in their car or other vehicle.

"In Ontario, Canada no person, while on a roadway, shall solicit a ride from the driver of a motor vehicle other than a public passenger conveyance (i.e. taxi or bus)."
